To improve the quality of life of patients included in dialysis and provide answers to the most frequently asked questions, which  hamper them to live with hope for the future, in a conference at Chisinau Center for Dialysis, on the World Kidney Day, a long – awaited paper by the  patients with kidney disease was launched – Guide for patient in dialysis.

 

“All collapsed in an instant. Usually, for such situations the word “sentence” is used but it was a confused status of complete lack of ideas what to do next… What will happen with  my plans for the future… and most important what will be with her?  The four years old human being needs her mother!  The first dialysis day is still in my memory… Fear, unawareness, hope… “, this is a confession of a 30 years old patient, diagnosed with end-stage kidney disease, a glimpse of life from a person connected to the dialysis machine.

“I’m sure, the practical application of knowledge, presented in this Guide, will extend and improve the quality of life of patients with kidney disease,” mentioned Petru Cepoida, BB-Dialysis medical director, co-author of the guide.

“Everything is in the hands of patients and, additionally, we have offered them the Guide.   This document steers people, whose life is linked to kidney dialysis device, how to take care of their health in such a way that to enjoy life!  Dependence on dialysis should not deprive them from the freedom of having a qualitative life,” said Svetlana Chitanu, co-author of the Guide.

Marked annually on the second Thursday of March, World Kidney Day aims at raising the awareness on the importance of kidney health and reduce the frequency and impact of renal affections.  This year World Kidney Day is held under the motto “Healthy lifestyle, healthy kidneys” and brings to the attention of the public the importance of correct nutrition to prevent kidney diseases.

 

“We are what we eat.  It is very important that the person reviews timely his/her food regime, the quantity of water consumed during a day, so as to avoid the end-stage of kidney disease, when it is not allowed to consume plenty of liquid and there are severe restrictions of food.”, stated during the conference Mrs. Galina Tomas, doctor of medical sciences, nutritionist, master of sports.

The figures are alarming.  The worldwide statistics, valid for Moldova, show that an adult out of ten suffers from chronic kidney disease, which means that in our country the number of people affected by this disease would register around 350 000.  Although common and dangerous these diseases can be effectively treated if detected early.

Terminal chronic renal insufficiency is a hard diagnosis, which involves inclusion of a person in dialysis, medical procedure of renal function substitution.  In Moldova, there are about 500 dialysis-dependent patients, of which 300 are patients are serviced in Chisinau Dialysis Centre, opened within public-private partnership project for dialysis services.

The press conference was held in Chisinau Dialysis Center, launched January 4, 2016, within the public-private partnership project for dialysis services in Moldova.  For the implementation of the project at national level and provision of high quality services to all dialysis patients with terminal renal insufficiency, the  German consortium, represented in Moldova by BB-dialysis company,  will have to invest 15 ml. Euro.

Since its opening the Dialysis Center has the objective to target its activities to meet the needs  of patients and the release of the Guide is another step in this direction.
