When kidneys don’t function or their function is under 15% of norm, this means that the person suffers from terminal chronic renal failure and needs to be included in dialysis medical therapy that replaces the kidneys.

The kidneys cannot eliminate metabolic wastes and excess fluids and in order to survive, the patient suffering from this disease must commute three times a week to dialysis, where he is undergoing hemodialysis, which, according to the treatment plan developed by the doctor, can take from 3 to 5 hours. To start the treatment session, the patient is placed in bed or chair for a few hours and is connected via vascular access to the dialysis machine called the “artificial kidney”.

Of course, the patient will have to adopt a new lifestyle, but in no case shouldn’t perceive hemodialysis as a reason to isolate and discontinue socializing with the others. The dietician of the Center will help you to adopt a correct diet and select the right food and amount. Pay attention! Non-compliance with dialyzed diet can worsen the dialyzed patient’s condition and recovery, because of the ill kidney, is very difficult. Communicate with your beloved ones about medical conditions, in this way you will find that you need psychological support, especially, at the beginning.

Do not give up your job, unless it involves an increased physical effort. Try to develop a program of dialysis sessions together with your doctor in order to allow you to continue your job.

You can practice some sports such as: cycling, tennis or, in the worst case, jogging.   Hemodialysis is not a reason for giving up trips. These are possible in areas where there are dialysis centers, it is important to do a dialysis appointment in due time. So, you shouldn’t limit your activities but only review your day program and include in it dialysis sessions that you should strictly observe!
